Lucky Couple Celebrates Celebrity Destination Wedding at The Inn

The Inn at English Harbour hosts sweepstakes winner during Antigua’s Month of Romance

June is the “Month of Romance” in Antigua – also known as the Heart of the Caribbean – and one starry-eyed couple from Atlanta exchanged their wedding vows with a luxurious celebrity destination wedding held among the beautiful woodlands and natural white-sand Caribbean beaches at The Inn of English Harbour. Adrienne Scales and Myreon Smith won the exclusive wedding package as part of a sweepstakes sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism and other key industry stakeholders.

At the Inn, destination weddings in a Caribbean paradise become pure nuptial bliss. Surrounded by colonial charm made even more beguiling by a recent $1.5 million renovation, the Inn at English Harbour features beautiful gardens, an open terrace with stunning views over English Harbour, a superb sandy white beach and smiling, exceptional service. One of the most picturesque parts of Antigua, marked by the passage of naval hero Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson, English Harbour provides an alluring blend of history and charm, a relaxed and natural atmosphere in one of the most unique locations in the West Indies. Yet just two minutes by water taxi reside the restaurants and nightlife of bustling English Harbour. Now more than ever, the historic charm of the resort’s colonial design converges harmoniously with modern-age conveniences and the natural splendor of Antigua to present a uniquely 21st-century take on paradise.

This year’s 2009 Celebrity Destination Wedding featured special guest Indashio, a 23 year old fashion designer, magazine editor, celebrity stylist and entrepreneur, who won the first series of the VHI reality show “Glam God.” The eight-episode reality series hosted by film and television superstar, Vivica A Fox, was designed to find the next hot celebrity stylist who has what it takes to be a visionary in fashion trends, and can raise the bar in Celebrity style.

The Inn’s sous chef provided the wedding cake, and other local providers also participated: Photography by Photo Fantasy, Flowers by Exotic Flowers, Hair and Make-up by Mingles.

A Wedding Story at the Inn...

It’s hidden. A wrong turn, and you might miss this heavenly escape from the hustle of life. Decorated with local fauna and flowers, The Inn, nestled gently between hills in English Harbour was selected for this year’s Celebrity Destination Wedding winners Adrienne Scales and Myreon Smith. In an intimate ceremony on the sand, the couple exchanged vows amidst a truly tropical backdrop of the setting sun, casting soft hues of orange over the gathering, enclosed with flowers from Exotic Floral. Adding to the gentle lull of the waves, local pannist Lacu Samuel gently serenaded the couple throughout the ceremony – the perfect soundtrack to this tropical slice of heaven. As the justice of the peace and the minister both shared brief words of encouragement, the couple faced each other, eyes locked, and gently whispered "I love you" to each other. As Myreon begins to repeat his vows, a tear escapes from Adrienne’s eye and trickles down her cheek, leading the path for a few more tears to follow suit. Beautiful in appearance and in their love, it’s easy to see that for moments at a time, they block out everything and everyone around them. The focus is on the this new and exciting venture they’ve begun together, and with the uncertainty of life that lies ahead of them, perhaps magnified by the gentle rushing of the sea against the shore, the couple is sure of one thing in their life – their love for each other. Exchanging their beautiful rings from Colombian Emeralds, the official jewellery providers for Destination Weddings, the couple squeeze each other’s hands tightly and the small gathering of tourism officials, guests, and special guests from the Sunshine Home for Girls applaud the newlyweds. In fact, one girl was so moved by the beauty and honesty in Adrienne and Myreon’s exchange of vows that she couldn’t help but cry.
Moving over to the pink and ivory decorated table, the couple each holds a glass as they prepare for the sand ceremony. Although it may have been made famous by the bachelorette couple Trista and Ryan, in Antigua and Barbuda and across the Caribbean the sand ceremony has replaced the candle lighting ceremony for decades.
With Adrienne pouring the pink Barbuda sand and Myreon pouring Antigua’s pristine white sand into a square vase, the two symbolise the inseparable nature of their union. As the Justice of the Peace gives her final charge, for a moment, Adrienne and Myreon once again tune out the people. Looking deeply into each other’s eyes, Myreon’s eyes now misting over as well, Adrienne whispers to him, "You’re now my husband." Myreon, his slight smile widening into a full grin, returns, "And you’re now my wife." Sealing the exchange with a soft and passionate kiss, the crowd once again erupts into applause as they congratulate the couple. Ahhhh. Beautiful, short, sweet and romantic to the last ray of sunset, the Destination Wedding did not disappoint the happy couple in making Antigua and Barbuda an ideal choice for their nuptials. Congratulating the couple after their cake cutting ceremony, tourism officers Derede Samuel-Whitlock and Shermain Jeremy thanked all involved parties, including the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority, wedding planner Manuela Henry at The Inn, and a host of other key parties, namely celebrity stylist and winner if VH1’s premiere Glam God, Indashio, who styled the wedding party. After their address, the tourism officers also thanked the nine travel agents for being present, the a handful from the Score 100 initiative, which will see 100 travel agents from around the world visit Antigua and Barbuda before Carnival. In a previous press release Samuel-Whitlock also noted that the Celebrity Destination Wedding initiative by the Ministry of Tourism is also a beautiful way to usher in and compliment the Romantic Rhythms Festival, which is slated to return next June. With sighs of satisfaction, having witnessed this beautiful exchange of this gorgeous couple, there’s one thought that lingers through the air. We locals have no need to be jealous. In fact, those on the outside peeping him have much to desire after getting a taste of this romantic tropical rapture gently folded into our breathtaking twin-island paradise. And that’s the realisation, that as far as weddings and paradise are concerned, we who reside here have only to step outside our doors and soak in this romantic ecstasy.

Opt for supreme privacy and early-morning swims with a beachfront cabana, or for the sultry beauty of hillside gardens and an easy stroll to The Inn’s cooling infinity-edge pool. Either choice breathes romantic escape with regally appointed settings that bring the colonial fantasy alive. Lounge all day in the heavenly cloud of a queen-sized bed dressed with floating canopy and sumptuous padded headboard, or seclude like a princess bride and her groom behind the voile drapery of a king-sized mahogany four-poster. Emerging to sample the sea air’s refreshing brine, your feet will grace floors of Italian Brera marble or supple polished mahogany, and your dangling robe will brush handsome colonial-era antiques as you approach the open-sea views afforded by your spacious verandah or private balcony. Up-to-date bathrooms deliver the indispensable conveniences of modern times, as do a trove of new in-room amenities such as flat screen televisions, iPod docking stations, air conditioning, and wifi internet access.
Come evening, couples will experience the aphrodisiacal wonders of food-sharing. The Inn’s highly acclaimed Terrace Restaurant intensifies the headiness with its rustic, stone-walled setting, candlelit tables beneath a star-filled sky, and the posh flair of English Silver Service. This season, Executive Chef Fred Cougnon delights guests with a new line up of textures, flavors and visual pleasures. As prelude to this perfect interlude, couples should share an island cocktail (or two) in the friendly warmth of The Stone Bar’s British pub environ.
For the crowning seduction on a getaway built on sybaritic splendor, the titillation of a shared massage knows no equal. The Inn’s newly built spa offers three decadent, albeit soothing, massages designed for couples – to be enjoyed in the spa’s dedicated massage room or in the privacy of a guestroom. “The Relaxation” applies Swedish technique in a full-body massage, with flowing strokes designed to relieve tensions, improve circulation, and induce a relaxed state (read, put one in the mood). “The Muscle Melter” goes deep into tissue with direct pressure to decrease pain and loosen tight muscles (love shouldn’t hurt, after all). And for the ultimate intoxicating sensation, the Aromatherapy Massage combines the potent effects of essential oils with Shiatsu, Lymphatic and Swedish massage to detoxify the immune system and release muscle tension (a holistic love potion made in heaven). For a quick beauty spritz before dinner, an adjacent beauty-therapy room offers rejuvenating facials, mani-pedis, and every kind of hair treatment.
